My life is nothing if not action packed. A couple of weeks ago I started getting this kinda strange feeling. Sort of dizzy, but not when I got up too quickly or leaned over or any of the other typical ways one can get oneself dizzy. I was getting seriously woozie when I rolled my head over in bed to get the water off the nightstand… Okay…that was weird. But I rather got used to it. But I started getting sort of wonky in the head, a bit disoriented…not able to focus, the computer kinda drives me batty and the dizzy, well, it got a lot worse.
So I called the nurse and asked…”Really, do I HAVE to come in??”. Yes, Tracy – and how about this afternoon?
Turns out I have rocks in my head. Literally. The little rocks that are attached to the little hairs in your ear that float about and keep you all upright…some had broken off and where floating about…Loverly. Cure? Just ride it out. Here are some nausea patches. Uhm. Okay.
Today it was soooo bad I didn’t go to school. The thought of driving…ewww. Oh, and this dizzy stuff kinda makes you queasy. So I’m home. Trying to get something done. New designers entered? Finish that kit? Nope. Nope.
So I’m laying in bed providing amusement for my sister and husband. I guess when I move my head to the right my pupils bug out. “Do it again! Do it again!”
We are all kinds of crazy around here

Can’t you ever have a boring month? Sheesh! Hope it goes away soon. I can’t even imagine how annoying that would be.
Please? Can I? Just ONE boring month!
Its pretty weird, but I’m getting kinda used to it
I had thought I had heard of everything..but evidently I hadn’t.:) Rocks in your ears??? That is a new one to me.:) Sure hope it goes away soon. When my neck goes out I do the same thing..waves of nausea ..not so much the dizziness though. But I hate feeling nauseated and can’t imagine how awful this is for you.Get well soon.:) You need a squirt gun to back that sister and husband off.LOL I like those big spray bottles with the long stream of water.LOL
Ewww, hate that feeling! Had it in college. Had to crawl to the bathroom because I was so dizzy I literally couldn’t stand up. Had it mildly a few times since and an audioligist friend of mine told me about the deal in my ears, though I think he called it crystals not rocks. Still… hope you’re all tiptop and back to normal soon!
I’ve had vertigo so bad to the point of falling down without realizing it was happening. My internist told me I had to ride it out and gave me AntiVert (prescription) which is the same as Dramamine.
However, the real cure was seeing a physical therapist trained in treating balance disorders. They can put goggles on you and when they roll you from side to side, they are able to see from the camera within the goggles which ear canal actually has the crystal (also know as rocks) which is causing the dizziness and balance problem. Then the therapist can treat you by simple roll movements and head positions to reposition the crystal(s).
I strongly recommend you research it (on the internet). If you find the right therapist (some chiropactors also can help), you’ll be glad you did. I originally had it so bad I was home for 6 weeks. I finally sought the help of a Ears, Nose and Throat doctor (also known as ENT specialist) who guaranteed me she could correct it that day and said I had a 15% of the vertigo returning. This doctor who is with the Cleveland Clinic (one of the best worldwide) then referred me to the therapist who specializes in balance disorder and taught me how to correct/treat the vertigo should it return again.
Sadly to say – it has returned with a vengence! I had to return to the therapist each time because she corrected it quickly and the last time I receive written instructions and drawings to do myself at home. So hopefully I will not need to return to see the therapist and can treat myself. I’ll probably jinx myself but I have not be vertigo free for over a year and a half. Previously it was happening once a year.
My older sister also has had vertigo and she has used only the Antivert. But since Antivert treats only the symptoms and the cause, she now has chosen to see the same therapist.
In my case – IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY I SPENT TO BE TREATED!
Good luck because I know how bad it can be. I find more and more people suffering from it and I always refer them first to an ENT specialist and therapist specializing in balance disorders and they come back thanking me because nothing else had truly worked.
Again, do some research – there is lots on the internet. I’m on vacation and away from home so unfortunately I can give you the web addresses but you’ll be glad you did your homework.
Thanks so much for all the advice…I’m adapting okay, but its pretty strange…Kinda makes things a bit surreal – I don’t think I’ve reached the frustration level that I need to yet to get to therapy…Kinda sad – that’s how lazy I am
Hey, I know I’m reading this late – and you don’t know me at all! – but I wanted to weigh in on the vertigo. I had the same problem last June and it went away by itself (well, after they gave me Antivert which did nothing) – but a few weeks ago it came back. I googled it – and found something called the Epley manuever that you can do at home. I tried it and it cleared mine up in like 3 minutes. I’m not a doctor or anything but it’s just positioning you can do – it’s easy and if it works, hey, more’s the better!
